This month's article (available through Ebscohost): Borja, R. (2006, April 5). Educators Experiment With Student-Written 'Wikis'. Education Week, 25(30), 10-10. Retrieved March 18, 2008, from Professional Development Collection database.

Abstract: The article reports that at the Neighborhood School, a public elementary school in New York City's East Village, students are creating and editing an online encyclopedia on pop-culture topics such as anime and X-Men. Students at East Side Community High School a few miles away have written and shared their own versions of "Macbeth" and discussed them online. And at Lewis Elementary School in Portland, Oregon, teachers can brainstorm and post their meeting notes on a Web site that allows instant access to revision and feedback.

 School Wikis:

Free Wiki: pbwiki.com

What is your immediate reaction to the concept of a Wiki?

A whole new world.  I can see my class discussing recent projects we're working on in the room.

What did you like about the Hannalee project?

This would be a really good place to start.  I'm definitely going to talk to the fourth and fifth grade teachers at my school about this opportunity.

This is a really great project done by a 5th grade class. Each student had a different piece to complete; in this way, the whole class participated in the development of the project. Especially interesting are the teacher's comments about the project.

What did you like about the Flat Classroom project?

I liked that the entire project is completely documented. Everything  overview infomation.

How might you or a teacher you know use a Wiki?

I'm thinking this might even be a good PBS opportunity.

Questions or Concerns: One question that arose was on Copyright.
